As we near the finish line, let’s band together to raise $25,000 during the month of October. Starting on October 1, donate at any level or purchase one of our 100% tax-deductible tickets, and you will DOUBLE the impact of your gift. Together we can raise an additional $50,000 for Bon Secours Forensic Nursing!
Below are descriptions of how your donation can support Bon Secours Forensic Nursing at any level!
$20,000 could help purchase a colposcope for Southside Medical Center. A colposcope is a large, powerful microscope which enables the nurse to see and then photograph evidence. The colposcope is a $40,000+ piece of equipment.
$15,000 can convert the forensic nursing training room into a “Zoom Room”. It will allow for coordination and communication on meetings with multidisciplinary teams including law enforcement, child protective services, and other hospital team departments. Additionally, this will expand the ability to meet nationally and internally with other leaders in their field.
$10,000 could help purchase an exam bed for Southside Medical Center, Bon Secours newest location that provides Bon Secours Forensic Nursing services. An exam can take hours. A good exam bed is crucial, so the patient is comfortable, and the nurse is able to maneuver the bed appropriately throughout the exam.
$5,000 can make up the difference between the cost of a sexual assault exam ($6,000+) and the amount reimbursed by the federal government ($1,200).
$2,500 level can fund snacks and drinks for one of the two nourishment centers in the expanded forensic nursing suite. Imagine waiting for your loved one while he or she is examined by a forensic nurse. The exams can last hours. Having snacks and drinks available close-by help alleviate a little of the stress associated with the experience.
$2,000 could provide crucial medication for a victim of sexual assault, if not covered by the victim fund. Medications to prevent STDs (sexually transmitted disease) and HIV, as well as pregnancy prevention medications, are provided at no cost to our patients.
$2,000 might purchase comfortable guest chairs for the exam rooms or artwork to decorate the new space.
$1,000 could go towards the purchase of tablets, sensory toys, and other items to help with distraction for our pediatric patients or for children who accompany adults receiving an exam.
$1,000 can be utilized to provide a sound bar and camera for the conference room. This improves coordination and communication in meetings with multidisciplinary teams like law enforcement, child protective services, and other hospital team departments.
$500 will allow our nurses and advocates to obtain specialized training and certifications. Technology and techniques are constantly changing, so our team is continuously learning to keep up with the best possible care to serve their patients. Training examples include strangulation, collection of touch DNA, and recognizing child abuse and human trafficking signs.
$250 might offer team building and crucial resiliency opportunities for staff members.
$250 could purchase a security item for a patient, such as a doorbell camera, surveillance camera, or cell phone.
$100 might be used to buy gift cards so our patients can purchase food, clothing, gas, or an Uber/Lyft/taxi ride. Some patients escape with only the clothes on their backs. Gift cards help them to purchase basic clothing, a toothbrush and toothpaste, a hairbrush, or diapers.
$100 could also provide victims of sexual assault who surrender their clothes as evidence with clean, new clothing to wear home from the examination. The forensic nurses provide these patients with sweatpants and t-shirt, as well as bras and underwear as needed.
