For 200 years, the mission of Bon Secours has been rooted in compassion and bringing Good Help to Those in Need. The Cancer Sucks event reflects that mission in the most authentic way. What began as friends gathering in a backyard—with a couple of bands and a desire to lift up loved ones fighting cancer—has grown into something extraordinary that first year: eight bands, a powerful partnership with Hardywood West Creek, rising community awareness, and meaningful fundraising. Now entering its 4th year, the event has already raised more than $70,000 to support the Bon Secours Cancer Institute and the vital supportive resources available to patients and families navigating a cancer diagnosis.

But this movement has always been about more than dollars. It’s about honoring the fighters, remembering those we’ve lost, celebrating survivors, and building a resilient, compassionate community. Every gift—large or small—helps provide comfort, hope, and healing when patients and their loved ones need it most.
